Team Performance Coaching
Do You Floss Enough?
Many people floss more often before and right after a visit to the dentist, then gradually do it less and less—until the next visit. The cycle repeats itself over and over.
The same pattern often occurs with team development and team building. Teams participate in training or workshops, experience a short burst of productivity, and then slowly return to normal—or worse. When lasting change doesn’t occur, team members can become disengaged or skeptical of future efforts.
One reason this happens is that short-term training builds awareness, but it does not consistently lead to skill development or sustained behavior change.
Building Lasting Team Performance Through Coaching
True improvement in team performance requires ongoing skill development and intentional behavior change. Our Team Performance Coaching process helps teams build the skills and habits needed to sustain high performance over time. This structured approach is designed to move teams beyond insight and awareness toward real execution. Through coaching, teams develop the capability to consistently apply what they learn in their day-to-day work. Our process for helping teams reach the next level of performance includes four key phases:
Baseline Data Gathering & Performance Improvement Design
We begin by establishing a clear baseline of the team’s current and past performance. This phase uses the Team Essentials Survey, interviews with team members, a review of team performance measures, and relevant existing team data.
Using these insights, we design a customized team performance improvement approach aligned with the team’s specific needs and goals.
Team Off-Site & Action Plan Development
A focused team off-site is conducted to strengthen cohesion and align team members around shared performance improvement priorities.
During this phase, teams collaboratively develop action plans that translate insights into clear commitments and next steps.
Team & Individual Coaching Sessions
Following the off-site, teams participate in a series of team and individual coaching sessions. These sessions reinforce skill development, support behavior change, and maintain accountability.
Between coaching sessions, individuals and the team complete targeted performance improvement assignments to ensure learning is applied in real work situations.
Progress Measurement & Plan Continuation
The Team Essentials Survey is administered again to measure progress and assess improvements in team performance. A comparison report highlights gains and identifies remaining opportunities.
Based on these results, the action plan is refined to continue advancing team performance to the next level.
The typical duration of Team Performance Coaching ranges from six months to one year. Our experienced team coaches support leaders and teams in creating meaningful, measurable improvement that lasts.
